Blog Prompt 9

How do you set the stage before a design presentation?

The people you have gathered for your presentation are hard to please people. So let them know why they are in this presentation in the first place. Let them know they are important part of the presentation and without them it would be pointless. People in the crowd like feeling part of the reason they are there. And having them feel like they wasted there time there is the last thing you want them to feel.

Start by taking the time to meet the people that are there. Let them know why they are there and there rolls within the presentation. Why they are there.  Also what you will be showing them.

Let them know what stage of the project you’re in. Give a very brief reminder of what the last stage was, how it helped you get to this stage, and how the presentation you’re in now will help move the project forward.

What are some things not to do in a design presentation and why?

Speak loud so everyone can hear you first of all. There is nothing worse than someone presenting and they are mumbling. Also be sure to not be sitting while presenting. You need to show people that it is your time to be talking. Have good eye contact with all your audience, Without eye contact people get distracted and don’t take you seriously and get on there phones.

When does a UX designers job end and why?

Ux design efforts end up as tasks on someone’s project plan somewhere, and after your work product is handed over to the of the team, you end up getting shuffled to another project. Time to close that door and start on something new right? Wrong! You still can do a lot to ensure that the best possible user experience design is produced.

What do you gain in variance of users for user testing?

The potential for Variance can help you uncover new areas for improvement in the site, as well as gain some insights into the user’s learning curve, based on previous rounds. As an added benefit, analyzing the differences in responses may also help you identify new questions that were not considered previously.

Blog Prompt 7

Blog Prompt 7

Questions:
Why does it make sense to design for a more adaptive web environment rather than be concerned with device breakpoints?

.  Because an adaptive web environment is key these days, Things are always changing and the best way to keep up with the fast paced web is through adapting. Instead of designers focusing on designing for specific device widths and getting hung up on the precise elements of a web design, they now need to be focusing in designing for content.

Questions:
What are some changes you, personally, can foresee in the future of web design?

. In my opinion there are going to be a few different very similar layouts in the future for web design. Things are going to look very alike I think. There will be many new ways to look at the web and websites in the coming years, And there will need to be new wen designs to cater to those new styles of viewing the web. Right now we only really have mobile and desktop. But we will soon be having other ways to view the web soon I am sure. So yes I think simplicity will be the key in the future of the web.

Questions:
What does an effective design do?
How do grids help proportion and balance?
What will one of your custom design principals be and why?

1.     An effective design has many has many good traits about it. But some of the most important traits are things such as hierarchy, Unity and variety, and dominance with in its design. Hierarchy is a great tool in designing because it gives your eye things look at in different stages. Things pop out at you before other things do. That is on total purpose. That is called hierarchy. It is designed such that the more important things are to be seen first on the page.

2.     Using grids in your Layout design is huge when making a successful design. Grids were designed to also help your eye move through out the page in a certain way. Whatever way the designer wants your eye to see the information. That is what grids are most useful for. Grids also help proportion and balance in that it evens out all the content on the page and makes it much easier to read what is on there. Grids are a huge key factor when designing a successful site.

Questions:
Why is it important for you to understand whom you are building the prototype for?
What do prototypes help you achieve?

Prototyping is an effective way of testing and making sure the functionality and designs prior to investing in development. Prototyping is also a great way to experiment and get ideas with your team or cliental.

It is vital to the success of your prototype to know what you are doing with it before you get too deep into the project itself. Also it is important because with out knowing who this prototype is for you don’t have much to go off and therefore not as experienced as some one that knows whom they are actually building their prototype for. It is a vital piece of information when building a prototype. Prototyping helps achieve many things. It gives the company or clients a reference of what and where things will be located on their sight. Sort of like a blueprint of a website in a way. Gives a clear understanding of where information, photos, pages, etc, will be located on the site.  They are also important in many other ways besides just showing the client where and what will be located. There are also factors such as readability of a website and being able to keep it clear readable and functional for the company or client to use. With out a clear prototype it will not be a successful one.  Having a clean prototype is the most important step of all.

Blog Prompt 3

Chapter 11

Questions:

What’s one of the first steps when creating an advanced site map?

What’s the difference between a site map and task flows?

When creating site maps that are more advanced or for larger websites and applications, first thing to do is use your first page to identify the steps you have to go through to reach the sites home page. Task flow is important in an advanced site map. Also I identify all your top level pages and navigation elements with the site. This ultimately will allow you to be able to show a nice view overview of the site up front and gives it a clearer understanding to everybody.

Site maps help to identify the structure of applications and websites. These can help show connections that help your audience understand of where they might locate content. Site maps use a lot of the same traits and elements as a site map, but the difference is that task flows are diagrams that identify a path that the user will take when they go through the website or the application.  Also you might not use task flow on every project like you would a user flow.

Article:

Why is it important to structure content?

To collect and categorize Meta data the type of items you will want users to navigate to. After exhausting all crucial categories, presents a page that lists all items that match the user’s selection to that point. It is important to do this and  to structure content because without structure the user will be lost and confused. It is the single most important thing besides the content.

Blog Prompt 4
Chapters 12

Question: How do wireframes help translate information at this stage of the process?

Wireframes and annotations are ways to see the structure and content. As well as how they function. When these get combined with sight maps they become very useful in identifying certain prototyping materials. So overall wireframes are used as a way of communicating your design. In one way wireframes are important is that they divide gaps between two different parts. Also in a lot of cases wireframes will be shown so that they can validate certain page elements or certain request modifications.  The information that is translated through wireframes in very important, this structure of web building information. They can come in many different forms.  Such as a formal business requirement, creative brief or project brief, meeting notes or a well designed site map or task flow.
